Activated carbon towers use the high adsorption capacity of the activated carbon bed to remove oil vapor, odors and hydrocarbon residues from compressed air. They are typically used in oil-injected compressor systems as the final purification stage after the oil separator and dryer.

As compressed air passes through the high-surface-area activated carbon bed, oil vapor molecules and hydrocarbon residues are retained on the carbon surface by adsorption. It serves as the final purification stage in applications that require completely oil-free air, such as food, pharmaceuticals, electronics and paint shops.
As compressed air passes through the activated carbon bed, oil vapor and odor compounds are physically retained on the porous structure of the carbon (adsorption). When the bed reaches a set saturation level it is replaced, maintaining the system’s purification performance.
